I started volunteering in tech at my church, freshman year of high school. I started on spotlight, then I was moved to CG, video engineer, switcher, camera, and then back to video. I was so afraid to move up and try something new, but people pushed me to do it, so I did. 2 years later, I am now tech director. I lead, teach, and bring in new people to do what I used to do in tech. I'm also a part of Potential Studios, I met such an amazing group of people, and I love all of them with my heart. I never thought I'd be walking around the lobby of main, inviting teenagers over to our youth building, it's something that I've always wanted to do, I finally ended up taking the steps to do it.
You can do anything you want to do. God planted you on this Earth, so you can live out his purpose for you. He wants you to live a happy and successful life with him in your heart, but the only person holding you back from that is you. You have the choice every single day, every single moment of your life to choose what you want to do, you have that power. God wants you to be happy with him, walking the path that his son once walked in, loving everyone even though some people despised him, he still loved them.
People around you may be brining you down, maybe your parents, lovers, friends, family members, even your mentors. But the thing is that you have the choice to listen to it, it's all you in the end. If someone says something rude about you, or even to you, realize that God says something so much greater. The only person to choose which voice you listen to is you, you can hear out what God says about you and that he loves you, or you can listen to the hate of this world and what the world has to say about you.
I remember freshman year of high school I tried to commit suicide, I was so upset with what was going on around me I thought I could just end it and walk away. But do you know what God told me? He told me that my time on Earth wasn't up yet, that I had so much potential that I had left inside of me that there was no way that I was going to die on that hospital bed, that no matter what I was dealing with there was nothing that I could not overcome. That day I prayed for the first time, and I begged God not to let me die. I know that when I look back on that moment, he did answer my prayer. For such a long time I felt like he wasn't there to actually talk to me, in reality he was there every single step of the way.
You see, the only person holding you back from everything, is you. I was holding myself back from such a greater potential that was within me, and I was so afraid to let it out. I thought that my life had no greater value so I decided to try to take matters into my own hands. You may be feeling the same way, you may be feeling that you don't even have a life planned for you. You're the only one thinking that, but what God is telling you right now is that he has such an amazing future planned out for you. He wants you to seek him and to be happy with no one but him, and then your whole life will fall into place the way you want it to be, the way you've always dreamed of. God sent his son to die on the cross, so that we can have an eternal life with Him, so that we can live freely and happily even if we sin. So now, it's time for you to pick up that cross and not be ashamed of it. Don't limit yourself to anything just because you think that you cannot do it. Jesus did everything, he lived his life out according to God's plan for him. You are your own greatest fear, the devil cannot even compare what you can do to yourself. God banished the devil into hell, where he will spend the rest of his life for eternity. You are your greatest enemy, you determine what you want to do with your life. God has your perfect life planned out for you, but you're the one who gets to decide to life in his path, or ditch it.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
The world has us following trends: new hair color, new game system, fishnets as socks, brand new iPhones. All of these things are trends, even if they don't seem to be. You may see your neighbor with a PS4 and you have a PS3, and you do whatever you can to save up your money so you can go ahead and buy the new gaming system. Your best friend may have gotten her hair colored for the summer time and you think she looks so beautiful so you go and dye your hair so you can match her. We spend an hour trying to get that perfect picture at our local coffee shop so we can show off how picture perfect we can be. If the iPhone 7 comes out and you have an iPhone 6, pfftttt you must be lame.
The world's goal is to blindside us from what is truly going on around us. This seems messed up doesn't it? The world trying to blindside us, sounds like complete nonsense. But this is all true, when you wake up in the morning you don't think about how your parents slept, or even how a homeless person got their meal last night. The first thing you do when you wake up is think about yourself, how you slept, or you may even check your phone. Everything that people seem to do today is only about one specific person, me, myself & I. This is significantly true as well, but not most people are like that.
I feel like a lot of us shield away God, maybe even not on purpose. We're so focused on other things going on in our lives and we forget about him. But the world also thinks it's so cool to not be religious and just live in today's current trends and to curse every 2.5 seconds. People spend up to 2-5 hours on their phone alone, scrolling through Instagram or any other social media site. They go to concerts and the first thing you see up in the air, is someone's phone recording the whole experience instead of living it. Lets think about this, if people's phones were replaced with bibles, what do you think the world would look like? Everyone would be spending a lot more time with God then caring about what new Starbucks drink came out or what Kylie Jenner decided to wear that day.
Now, I'm not saying not to follow social trends or to spend less time on your phone, you're the only one who can control what you decide to do with your life. My point here is that we care so much about the little things that are materialistic, that we forget the bigger picture. When we die we're not going to bring the stuff we have on this Earth with us. Now you may argue and say that we can bring stuff into our coffins, but let me tell you honey, none of that comes with you. We should be spending more time with our loved ones, and spreading love to every person that we see, even random strangers. If we spent more time praying, or reading the Bible than we do on our phones, think about the changes it would make in our lives. The word of God is like a wildfire, it affects one person after the next. If you change your habits, the way you talk, the way you act, it'll surely move along. If we stop being blindsided by what the world wants us to see, and open our eyes to see what God has made, we'll realize that the people on this Earth need our help. We may be the only people that someone sees who has God in their hearts, we could help someone go through such a difficult time and lead them to God. We can help so many people, but do you know what the world says? Do it for Instagram, do it for Snapchat, Do it for Facebook. But what About doing it for God? Instagram and Facebook do not prove that you're a good person, or even show your whole life. God has your life planned out, the good times and the bad.
Try for one whole day, not to be blindsided. Hang out with your family, play some board games, go on a walk, do something you've always wanted to do that the world told you that you cannot do, be the person you've always wanted to be. God made you for a purpose, but you need to decide not to be blindsided by the world, and let that purpose somehow tell people about God as well. Don't live a blindsided life, live a life where you're guided through God's eyes. He's the one who see's past this world, and even beyond it.
I'm a huge fan of chicken nuggets, and enthusiastically excited about what God as in store for my life. My other half is currently in the Air Force, so a lot of blog posts will be about the military as of right now.
