I recently bumped into my ex-boyfriends mother at church this past weekend, and let me tell you this woman is literally a second mother to me. We catched up and she asked me how has everything been. I told her that I was more active in church and that all of my dreams have been coming true and that I was super happy. She seemed proud of me I was, and still am, proud of myself too. We began to talk on the topic of being worried. She told me things that worried her and how her mind made it seem like things would go so bad even when they were not. In this case I completely agreed with her, when something can have a possibility to go wrong, that's the first thing we think of, unless you are totally optimistic then I'm proud of you, teach me your ways. She started to tell me that she was in the process of changing how she looked at things, it seemed like she wanted to live more of an optimistic life, in which she already does. This one thing just seemed to be holding her back, and that needed to change.
But in my case, I am such a worrier. At church she began to tell me that whenever her husband wouldn't answer the phone she first began to think the very worst. What if he was in an accident, where are the closest hospitals? Can anyone else relate to this?! When she first told me that I looked at her and I'm like.. I completely understand! She told me that we overcomplicate things within our mind, and we have the choice to make things simpler, but it's our choice in the end.
In my previous post I mentioned that the only thing that is stopping you from reaching your potential is you. Our minds play such a huge roll in our everyday life, we can choose to make things simpler within our life, that will help us make our day a bit easier.
Tips on how to "simplify" our lives.
• Read your bible
I feel like this is the most important tool that you will ever need. People will tell you this throughout every situation in your life. Wether it's marriage, sickness, or divorce, you will need the bible. There are hundreds of verses that you can read that you'll be able to relate to in any given situation. Here's an example:
(Proverbs 12:25 NLT) Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.
• Figure out the problem
When you're doing a math problem, what's the first thing you do? You look at the problem and then you try to think of the solution. There could be multiple ways to figure out the solution to the problem, but let's be honest here, we all want the quick and easy root to solving the problem. Once you've figured out that there's a problem at hand, sit down and figure out ways to try to solve it. Maybe you'd need to pray every morning and night, just to get that extra time with God, or maybe it's a relationship that's holding you back from something. Once you've figured out the solution, make it happen. Don't sit there and just think that it'll happen, if you want to change and don't put forth any effort you will never change.
• Give yourself some GOD + ME time.
You're probably used to hearing I'm going to have some me time. I feel like if we include God in our me time, we would be able to spend more time with him then we probably already do. He's already with us every step of the way in our lives! When we spend more time with God we'll be able to hear what he wants us to do with our lives, and we'll be living a more happier and simple life given that we're following him.
• Live in the NOW
You don't want to be spending every day, and every moment worried about something that could be happening. Wait and be patient to see what what is going to happen. If you spend your time living in the what if's you won't be able to spend your life in the what now's. You'll be living the type of life that you mainly dreaded, and wanted to change.
I'm a huge fan of chicken nuggets, and enthusiastically excited about what God as in store for my life. My other half is currently in the Air Force, so a lot of blog posts will be about the military as of right now.
